02

Modes of Payments

We require 50% advance payment to confirm a schedule. Accepted payment methods include Bkash, Nagad, Rocket, BEFTN, RTGS, etc. We share a money receipt upon payment. The remaining amount is due at report delivery.

03

Site Requirements and Client’s Duty

04

Lab Test and Report Delivery

Reports are generally delivered within 7–10 days. Urgent reports can be delivered within 5 days, with an additional charge. Two hard copies and one scanned PDF are provided, signed by a registered geotechnical engineer.

05

Minimum Bore Points and Depth

Per BNBC-2020, a minimum of:

We stop boring once three layers reach SPT N ≥ 50. We typically go 6 meters below expected foundation level.

06

Mobilization & Demobilization Charge

07

Labour Accommodation

For sites outside Dhaka, clients must provide labor accommodations (shed/under-construction structure). If unavailable, NDC can provide a portable setup.

08

Report Retention Period

We store soil test reports for 2 years. Clients may request copies within this period. We recommend clients keep their copy safe for future use.

Why Soil Test for Building in Bangladesh is Important

1. Ensures Building Safety

Foundation type and depth rely on soil test data. Poor testing can cause catastrophic structural failure.

2. Minimizes Foundation Cost

Accurate soil data avoids excessive safety margins and unnecessary costs. Soil testing can reduce foundation cost by 20%.

3. Saves Life and Property

Foundation failure can lead to partial or full building collapse. Soil testing ensures your investment is safe from the start.

4. Enhances Building Life

Improper soil testing causes premature failure. A strong foundation supports a building’s 80–100-year lifespan.

5. Prevents Building Settlement

Differential settlement causes cracks, structural stress, and collapse. A proper soil test ensures uniformity and safety.

6. Determines Groundwater Level

Especially crucial for multi-basement buildings, proper groundwater data prevents seepage issues and helps design robust retaining systems.

Process of Soil Test for Building Construction in Bangladesh

1. Site Preparation

Clear the site (5’x5’ area), remove obstructions like RCC floors, and ensure a water source is nearby.

2. Fixing Bore Hole Numbers and Locations

Minimum:
  • 3 boreholes for 2–3 Katha plots
  • 1 borehole per Katha for large plots
Locations must cover the building footprint uniformly.

3. Mobilization of Field Equipment

Equipment includes:
  • Drilling Rig, Casing/Drill Pipes, Tripod, Samplers, Pumps, Auto Trip Hammer
  • 6–8 laborers (skilled and unskilled)
  • Equipment transported via 3-ton pickup van

4. Field SPT Collection

SPT taken every 5 feet using Split Spoon Sampler and Auto Trip Hammer (63.5 kg from 30 inches). SPT N-values are recorded after 18-inch penetration.

5. Computation of SPT N-Value

First 6″ (seating blows) ignored. Next 12″ penetration recorded as SPT N-value. Drilling continues until SPT ≥ 50 in three layers.

6. Sample Collection

  • Disturbed samples: via Split Spoon Sampler
  • Undisturbed samples: via Piston Sampler or Shelby Tubes

7. Lab Testing of Soil Samples

Tests include:
  • Moisture Content
  • Atterberg Limits
  • Grain Size Analysis
  • Shear Strength
  • Unconfined Compression
  • Triaxial Test
  • Consolidation Test
For critical sites, samples may be tested at BUET Geotechnical Lab.

8. Test Results & Report

Engineers analyze results and apply:
  • Terzaghi’s bearing capacity formula
  • FS = 3 for safety
Reports include bore logs, graphs, soil classifications, and foundation recommendations signed by RAJUK-enlisted engineers.

Soil Test Cost in Bangladesh

Costs range from Tk. 7,000 to Tk. 25,000 per point depending on:

1. Borehole Depth

  • Up to 60 feet: Lower cost
  • 100+ feet: Requires more labor/time

2. Number of Boreholes

More boreholes = lower cost per point due to shared mobilization cost.

3. Location of Site

  • Within Dhaka: No mobilization cost
  • Outside Dhaka: Pickup fare & accommodation added

4. Method of Exploration

  • Wash Boring (Standard SPT): Cost-effective
  • CPT, CBR: Additional cost

5. Volume of Lab Tests

BUET Lab charges:
  • Tk. 2,300: Specific Gravity
  • Tk. 3,800: Grain Size Analysis
  • Tk. 7,000: Hydrometer Test
  • Tk. 24,000: Consolidation Test
  • Tk. 10,000: Unconfined Compression
  • Tk. 16,000: Direct Shear

6. Urgency of Report

Urgent reports (within 5–7 days) incur additional lab and staff charges.

7. Offshore & Onshore Sites

Onshore (rivers/sea) needs:
  • Boat/Villa
  • Casing pipes
  • Bentonite powder Thus, cost is higher.

8. Geographical Features

Hilly areas or jungle-covered sites may require:
  • Floor-breaking charges
  • Extra labor
  • Terrain transport adjustments
